A small, privately-owned zoo, the Metro Richmond Zoo is the only facility of its kind in the Richmond area. Some 1,400 animals representing around 150 species from around the world are held at this modest zoo, including a large assortment of primates, rhinos, cheetahs, zebras and more. The Safari Sky Ride lets guests take a 15-minute chair ride over the zoo, allowing unique aerial views of the animals in their habitats, while the Safari Train Ride runs right through some of the other enclosures. From downtown Richmond, the zoo is about 25 miles away and it is about 7 miles west from Swift Creek Reservoir.
